WinMagic's SecureDoc is een envoudig te installeren, te configureren en te onderhouden AES-256 bit encryptie engine dat alle bestanden op alle drives voorziet van een solide versleuteling.  Er is hierbij gekozen voor pre-boot authenticatie door middel van wachtwoorden, hardwaretokens, biometrie, PKI, TPM of smartcards. 

De oplossingen van WinMagic zijn er zowel in een corporate uitvoering als in Personal Editions waardoor SecureDoc voor ieder type gebruiker interessant is. “Met de SecureDoc Enterprise Server is het een fluitje van een cent om de client over het gehele bedraade en draadloze netwerk van een organisatie te distribueren,” aldus Reinier van der Drift, directeur van BioXS International. “SecureDoc werkt ook naadloos samen met LDAP, Active Directory, PKI, smartcards of tokens. Het heeft ook nog eens als eerste en enige product een FIPS 140-1 level 2 certificering waardoor het zelfs is goedgekeurd voor het Amerikaanse National Security Agency. Het is dus een perfecte aanvulling op de rest van ons assortiment.”

 

Zelfs Bruce Schneier, CTO van Counterpane Internet Security en genadeloze criticaster van slechte encryptie, is lovend over WinMagic SecureDoc: “De op sectoren gebaseerde encryptie van SecureDoc is slim gedaan. Het bevindt zich op het meest basale systeemniveau en onderschept daardoor alle lees- en schrijfactiviteiten naar de schijf. Daardoor is de hele schijf versleuteld en kunnen er geen sectoren worden gemist. Met werkelijk sterke encryptie-algoritmen is SecureDoc goed ontworpen.”

 

Zelfs de meest geavanceerde encryptiesoftware is waardeloos als deze is gezekerd met een eenvoudig wachtwoord. Sterke wachtwoorden zijn helaas lastig te onthouden dus is authenticatie door middel van een vingerafdruk een perfecte balans tussen gemak en veiligheid. WinMagic SecureDoc  ondersteunt daarom sinds kort de vingerafdrukscanners van UPEK die niet alleen ingebouwd in verschillende notebooks zijn terug te vinden maar ook los verkrijgbaar zijn. Van der Drift: “Wij zijn erg gelukkig met deze combinatie omdat wij de Eikon-lijn USB-scanners van UPEK al een tijdje voeren. Zo kunnen we twee topproducten combineren en ze voor onze klanten als één pakket leveren met alle benodigde support.”

  • Italy opts to have fingerprints on national identity cards
    (source= Couriermail) AN Italian parliamentary commission has approved a plan to require fingerprints on national identity cards for everyone living in Italy. The plan is taking shape following international criticism of a separate government campaign to single out Gypsies, including children, for mandatory fingerprinting. The House of Deputies finance commission, as part of its work on the threeyear 20092011 national budget law, gave the goahead to funding for fingerprinting starting in 2010 for those getting Italian identity cards for the first time or renewing ones that have expired. Identity cards are required for Italian citizens and foreigners who reside in Italy. Now they feature the cardholders photo.
